Tingg is a mobile payment app designed to revolutionize how people make payments in Africa. The app enables customers to easily and securely collect and make payments, addressing the challenges of cross-border transactions and promoting financial inclusion across the continent.
OBJECTIVE
The goal is to design an intuitive and user-friendly mobile app and online platform that enables customers to send, receive, and manage payments seamlessly anywhere in Africa.
Research Phase
USER RESEARCH & COMPETITOR ANALYSIS
I conducted interviews and surveys with a diverse group of potential users from various African countries to understand their needs and preferences regarding mobile payment solutions.
Additionally, I analyzed existing mobile payment apps in Africa to identify their strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement.
Define Phase
USER PERSONA
I created a user persona based on the research findings. “Mary” is a 35-year-old entrepreneur from Nigeria who runs a small business and frequently conducts cross-border transactions with suppliers in Ghana and Kenya.
Ideation Phase
FEATURE PRIORITIZATON
Based on user needs and pain points, I prioritized key features that enhanced the app’s intuitiveness and personalization.
Simplicity — Minimizing clutter and focusing on core functionalities to cater to users with varying digital experience.
Language Support — Ensuring multilingual support, allowing users to interact with the platform and website in their preferred languages.
Multi-Currency Support — Users can make payments and receive funds in multiple African currencies, converting them at competitive rates.
Customer Support Chat — Real-time chat support feature to resolve any user queries or issues quickly.
Design Phase
INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE & VISUAL DESIGN
I established a clear and intuitive information architecture to facilitate smooth navigation within the platform. By developing low-fidelity wireframes for key screens, I focused on simplicity, consistency, and ease of use.
The resulting design features a clean and modern user interface with a vibrant color scheme that reflects the diverse culture of Africa while maintaining a professional appearance.
Prototyping Phase
PROTOTYPING & USERBILITY TESTING
I constructed an interactive prototype using Figma, Sketch, and Miro to illustrate the app’s flow and gather early feedback from users. Subsequently, I conducted usability testing with a small group to identify potential pain points and areas for improvement in the design.
Implementation & Launch
Working with the development team, we ensured that the platform’s infrastructure was distributed across multiple data centers to enhance reliability and availability.
We designed the platform to be lightweight, accommodating lower-end smartphones that are prevalent in some regions. Additionally, we implemented robust security measures, ensuring compliance with local regulations and international data protection standards.
